Class: Day 3

We are midway through the 1st week, the classes are fast paced and last from 8-3pm. First semester classes include: Human Anatomy, Biochemistry, Embryology, Cellular Biology, Intro. to Medical Practice, Medicine in the Community, Genetics, and for some the Computer course (if you did not test out.) Intro. to Medical Practice is a bit more difficult for me since it's taught in Spanish. I'm also content with the professors, they are overall better than I expected. On a side note, first semester books have cost nearly $600 US. I'm going to study. Until next time, have a good weekend.

Orientation: Day 4

9:00am: Day 4 of orientation was held at the ICB campus in room #112, a medium sized auditorium style classroom that seats 175 students (we have 82 students starting this Spring semester.) We met with Dr. Héctor Meléndez from the Dept. of Pharmacology. He discussed the 7 required vaccinations (and the optional vaccinations) for the UAG students. I can provide the list if anyone is interested. Next we were assigned our P.M.C. clinical spots. This is the Program of Medicine in the Community or la Programa de Medicina en la Comunidad.

Orientation: Day 3

Day 3 of orientation started at 8:30am and was the first day at the UAG Medical campus, aka the ICB. Again, business attire. The day consisted of a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Spring semester schedule pick-up, White Coat Ceremony, and a few words from the Deans. The school supplied the white lab coats (I have heard this is not always the case.) Overall the campus is nice and quite small. Observations: I found that the library has free internet access, the coffee shop is reasonable priced, and the UAG bookstore carries the medical equipment required.

Orientation: Day 2

Day 2 is also at the UAG Main Campus (CU) in the President’s building. The time you arrive is based on your name. For example: last names from A-D were at 9:00am, E-G were at 10:00am, and so on. Business attire was 'required' today, but a lot of students didn't get the memo. In order to make this day go smoothly, I highly recommend going to Pre-registration (the friday before Orientation) to get the paperwork started. The whole day is designed to help get your paperwork finished. There are tables set up as stations and labeled by the department you can find there.

Orientation: Day 1

The first day of orientation is on the UAG Main Campus (CU) in the President's building starting at 8:30am. Most of the guys wore suits, gals in business attire as well of course. At the minimum everyone should wear a button-up shirt and slacks. Arrive 8:00ish if you would like to mingle and meet other students. Coffee, juice, and breakfast pastries were served. Everyone I met was very nice, I made some friends I hope to have for a long time. I could easily see groups forming. Many people search for others from their state. Alot of conversation about books, housing, classes, hotels, etc.

Whew

I'm finally getting settled and I'll summarize as much as possible to keep it short. I flew in to Guadalajara from Austin; I made my way through customs and picked up my baggage (a maximum of 2 bags not weighing over 50lbs each, plus one carry-on.) Next I walked to the taxi window, gave him my hotel address and paid $20 USD for a 30 minute ride to the Hotel Nuevo Real Guadalajara (see the Useful Information section for the address and number.)

The cab driver didn't speak english, but my spanish was enough for conversation.

Hello world!

Thanks for stopping by. This website is a project that started in 1999 lasting through 2003, and today reincarnated as the forum of issues I care to ramble about (thanks for the motivation Johnny.) Alas, no worries, I have the old Deuceposse website archived and will work on getting it linked to the new and improved version.

While developing TimInMexico.com I decided to keep it's site focus on 1 main idea: Information. Mainly because there is a lack of it concerning UAG in cyberspace.
