Death Race (2008)

Death Race (2008)I hadn't heard of this movie, maybe because I've been in Mexico for 2 years and the trailers probably didn't get as much airtime as most big budget flicks. Apparently it is a remake of a cult-classic called "Death Race 2000" from 1975. It has the guy from "Transporter" and I can't remember his name and don't want to pretend like I know it. He gives a good performance with the usual ass-kicking but always leaving me with a mystifying question, "how did his character learn to kick so much ass?" It also has the guy that plays Al Swearengen in the tv series Deadwood. I think that might be part of the reason I liked this movie. Anyway, it reminds me of most other movies about criminals in the future (but this one ironically close to us, taking place in 2012.) Not really a waste of time, I think it would be great for a Sunday night with a little chips n cheese.

Fell asleep: no
Overall? pretty awesome
Would I recommend? if you like futuristic convict fiction-like movies
Would I watch it again? sure

It's cold in Texas

After finishing up 4th semester, packing up and leaving Guadalajara was surreal and reminded me of how it felt to leave Austin 2 years before.  The drive back was uneventful, I left at 7pm and arrived in McAllen at 7am.  I always say that the toll roads (Cuotas) are awesome and at night there is no one on the road, nothing different this time around except my car seemed sluggish due to it being stuffed with all my belongings.  After spending 24 hours in McAllen, I drove 6 more to Houston to see friends and family there.  Now, a week later, I arrived in Austin and am pretty much living out my car for 2 more weeks.  I want to get all my visiting out of the way so I can focus on preparing for the COMP exam that will be held January 23rd.  So, I'm here and it's freaking cold.  Did I mention that it's cold?  I never really thought much of it when I lived here, but at least it should be warmer in Miami.  Call me so we can get some pizza!
