Finishing 2nd Semester

It may seem that I am super busy with school and that's why I have only 2 posts in the past 6 months. Well, true, but not completely accurate. This semester has been "less challenging" or "easier" as some people say. But I think 1st semester was an adjustment period. The culture shock, remembering how to study efficiently, and then actually making the time to do it. This time around I was better prepared and used to the lifestyle in general. But now we are looking at 4 more lectures and 2 exams (Immunology and Bioethics). We might as well start planning the party. "Booooooom its on!" To summarize what is new: I moved into a 2 bedroom/2 bath duplex by myself and am really loving the newfound independence. I feel like I'm 18 again. This semester my grades are where they should be, knocking the hell out of every test. When you see me next month, pat my back and buy me a beer haha! I'm planning to drive back to Texas and should arrive around December 11th or 12th. I'll be staying in Austin until New Years Eve which I'll be spending in Houston, then driving back to Mexico around the 4th of January. Most of you have read my emails about whats going down. If not, you know how to reach me. There are several new albums in the photo gallery. Nothing super spectacular, some parties, some pyramids, some bars, etc. Enjoy!

Looks the same...is not the same.

Mac N Cheese in MexicoWell, I've been pretty busy with school, but I thought this would be a fun side-theme. Things that look familiar, but are very very different. Mac N Cheese in Mexico, is not like Mac N Cheese in the USA. I hear that some stores sell the legit product at mark-up. Who knows, Ill be bringing a pallet back with me on the next trip. Enjoy the scan.

Awesome Map to the Immigration Office in Reynosa, Mexico

Map Number 1Though extremely aggravating, I got a kick out of these maps that were drawn by a Mexican border official the day I drove across the border into Mexico. I couldn't find the Immigration Office. Map Number 1 was drawn (horribly) and after driving around for an hour (keep in mind the environment) I decided to return to the guy for a "better" drawn map with more squiggly lines and "USA". We will call it "Map Number 2". Go ahead and laugh.

To Texas and Back to Guadalajara

Hello everyone, I have made it back from Austin to Mexico in one piece. The 15 hour drive wasn't too bad and the new Jetta held up well against the army of potholes. It helped that I stopped and stayed with friends, breaking the actual driving time up a bit. I had a little trouble crossing the border due to my expired student visa, and I also got lost in Guadalajara for an hour once I arrived....kinda ironic I guess. Now I'm missing everyone but this Monday classes start and I'll be back to the studying. This semester is supposed to be a bit easier than the previous, so thats something to look forward to. =] I was able to hang out with almost everyone during my 3 weeks in Texas. Some people more than others and I'm sorry, but no fret, I will be returning early December for about 2 weeks or so. I hope to see everyone again then. Thanks to those of you who offered me a place to stay (especially Braxton and Kevin.) I did my best to stay out of the way, plus I got plenty of the relaxation and fun I've been missing the past 6 months. Again, it was great seeing you all. I especially enjoyed a lot of the one on one time, it reminds me of who lucky I am to have such good people around me, even after months or years, we clicked like it was yesterday. So thanks again....until December. I've added 15 new photo sets to the photo album, click here to view them.

Puerto Vallarta

I just got back from an awesome (and well deserved) 5 day vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. For those of you that know me from past Cancun, Cozumel, or Acapulco trips....then you know what time it is! Up early and last one to sleep....thats how I do it. Lots and lots of pictures are ready for your viewing pleasure. As usual, I post the pics by the day, and if you would like to see them click --> Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, and Day 4. The next couple weeks I will be in Austin, Texas.... ah home sweet home. You know how to find me if you need me. =]

1st Semester....Finished!

Let me start by saying that this past month has been one of the hardest in my life. But at the same time I have some new perspectives and have learned a lot in the process. Final exams caused a little more stress than I could handle at times but nevertheless I have passed with pretty decent grades. I was lucky enough to be exempt from the Biochemistry final exam that most of the class will be taking this Wednesday, therefore ending my semester a week early....awesomeness. It's a good feeling, being one step closer to the end, though the end is a long way away.

My Birthday Weekend

Hellooooooo everyone! First I'd like to say thanks for all of the birthday messages and emails I recieved. I am still waiting on the safe return of my cellular, so bare with me and I'll return the calls soon. This past weekend was a 4 day weekend, which turned out awesome since it was my birthday as well. Friday night, some of my classmates threw a birthday party for the April birthdays. It was a blast and of course it wouldn't be Mexico without a piñata!

Finally a week without exams

Last week was pretty rough- coming back from a great Spring Break and returning to the UAG. It's what I call "The Holiday Hangover", which has nothing to do with vomit or a headache. It's when you're back to the normal grind, but your mind is still in Acapulco or wherever you enjoyed the break. Trust me, it was hard to focus on pyruvate caboxylase and Tay-Sachs Disease. On top of that, I had kicked my coffee habit (or traded it for alcohol perhaps) but now that I'm back to the books I HAD to have my coffee. Regardless, it worked like a charm...

Spring Break 2007

There were 6 of us total including Ramon, Angel, Tripp, Danielle, myself, plus our chauffeur Alfredo. We packed up our luggage and road sodas, jumped in the deluxe mini-van and that is how the adventure began. Spring Break included a trip through Mexico City, a stop at the pyramids of Teotihuacán, and the final days spent in beautiful Acapulco.

We spent the first day touring the pyramids of Teotihuacán, which was one of the things on my "life to-do list".

2nd Anatomy Exam

I've had my nose in the books for the past week studying for our 2nd Anatomy exam, covering all aspects of the Head & Neck. One interesting thing about UAG (and maybe other medical schools?), is that the test questions are pulled from a question bank that is notoriously outdated. This is primarily true for a few of the 1st semester courses: Anatomy, Embryology, and Cellular Biology. You may argue that there is a limited number of questions that can be asked to include key concepts.
